When you’re job hunting, waiting to go to a job interview you need the right skills, education, and experience. But that’s not all you need. Employers are also looking for your qualities.
Check out the list of 10 important qualities for your job interview:
1. Leader/leadership. It’s the ability to take charge, to volunteer for assignments, and to accept accountability for achieving the required results of those assignments. A leader takes charge of achieving company goals and then committing him/herself to performing at high levels.
2. Creative/creativity. If you can brainstorm and think outside the box, emphasize the creative aspect of your personality during job interviews. Regardless of the industry, creative thinkers are valued corporate assets. Outline ways in which your creativity has been of value to employers in the past.
3. Resilient/resilience. Can you still perform when the going gets tough? Think of examples from your personal and work life, and try to work them into the interview.
4. Positive/positiveness. A positive attitude, a smile, and an easygoing attitude tell an employer you will be a pleasure to have around.
5. Problem-solving skills. The “tell me about a time” question is also an opportunity to talk about how you effectively approach problems.
6. Loyal/loyalty. Employers seek candidates who can demonstrate loyalty to something—a cause, colleagues, a company, your profession.
7. Flexible/flexibility/adaptability. Interviewers sometimes ask an unexpected or even “crazy” question just to see how you react. This is a time to be at your most unflappable.
8. Proactive/proactivity. A good indicator of productive creativity is one’s willingness to act, to take the initiative to put an idea in motion.
9. Follow-through. Follow-through is a habit of mind highly valued at most companies. A good example is writing a thank-you note after the interview.
10. Likable/likability. Employers like people who are warm, friendly, easygoing, and cooperative with others. Employers are looking for people who can join the team and be part of the work family.
Men and women with good personalities are invariably more popular and more effective at whatever they do. Teamwork is the key to business success. Your experience in working as part of a team in the past and your willingness to work as part of a team in the future can be among the most attractive things about you in applying for a job.
A good candidate prepares him/herself with storytelling. Tell some evidences of achievement and commitment in your personal and professional life is very important. Employers like to see success in what you've done in the past.
